A July 2026 update on conditions at the Bishop Hill Museum
I wanted to address some issues that we have run into at the museum at the Bishop Hill State Historic Site. Late last summer a failure in the HVAC system in the building caused a spike in humidity levels which led to some minor mold growth. The failure in the HVAC system was addressed, dehumidifiers were brought in, and the humidity soon returned to normal levels. This arrested the mold growth and we have seen no further growth since. Bishop Hill State Historic Site Renovation Update 11/19/25
I don’t have a ton to report, but I do have good news and bad news. Bad news first: the project will be slightly delayed as CDB, IDNR, and JLK have to do some additional planning and design work. But this is because of the good news… The good news: GOMB (The Governor’s Office of Management and Budget) has approved an additional $5 million for phase 1 of the Bishop Hill renovations.
